Inject a year value when target field is blank

Hi,

I am using the calendar to input birthdates for kids that are between the ages of 12 and 18. When I enter their birth dates for the first time, the target field is blank and so the calendar opens with today's date. This means that I must click the year scroller many times to get back to their year of birth. Is there any way to inject a more reasonable starting date so the calendar opens at say... 1990.
