HELP: open folder images woes :S

I have a problem. I am using Tigra Tree Menu to display folders only - no files. So I have edited tree_tpl.js so that "leaf icon open" uses a folder icon opposed to a file icon. I want it so that when I click on a folder, that folder icon displays an opened folder image (root icon open, node icon open, leaf icon open). However, somehow my menu is not displaying opened folders anywhere, not even at root or node level.

I have checked my tree_tpl.js file corresponds to the correct images. Does anyone know whether there's a bug or strict usage? What's the best way to troubleshoot/find out why am not getting open folder images on root/node/leaf levels?
