how to generate the tree structure on click?

Hi

I m trying to get subfolders when user clicks on the folder icon.I want to pass children to same tree and display tree as open tree.

that is if user clicks on one folder,children should be populated from server side(database) and same tree should be refreshed to display the folder with open icon ...

Hope the problem is clear.Please any tell me how to achieve this.
